Subject: Online e-petition

I’m writing to request that your organization circulates to your membership and patrons an online e-petition that opposes the Liberal’s plan to ban “military-style assault rifles” through an Order in Council.  In less than one month this e-petition has garnered over 86,000 signatures. Clearly, Canadians oppose the Liberals’ proposal to implement their gun-control strategy in a multi-step process.

Conservatives are committed to ensuring that Canadians are safe and secure in their homes and in their communities.  The Liberals soft on crime approach has done nothing to address rising gang and gun violence, or the drug crisis that has already taken nearly 14,000 lives. Forcing law-abiding Canadians to follow even more laws will not reduce crime. Instead the Liberals should focus on gangs, criminals, and illegal firearms.

Conservatives want to see a plan that includes:

  • Support for police anti-gang and gun units
  • Youth prevention programs
  • Action on rural crime
  • Tougher sentences for violent offenders
  • Support for courts and prosecutors
  • CBSA Firearms Smuggling Task Force
  • Increased access to mental health and addictions treatments

I encourage all concerned Canadians to sign the e-petition before February 15th, 2020 through the following weblink:  https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2341.
